RENTER PROTECTION · RUNS IN THE BACKGROUND · UK
Paper Trail quietly documents your whole tenancy — photos, repair requests, rent receipts, every ignored message — and turns problems into professional, formal letters, with the option to reference official guidance on your rights. You live your life. It keeps the records.
LAUNCHING IN ENGLAND FIRST · FIRST 500 MEMBERS LOCK IN £2.99/MO FOREVER
It's January. Your boiler dies. You message the landlord. He leaves you on read. Here's what Paper Trail does next:
You snap a photo of the dead boiler and type "no heating or hot water". That's all you ever do.📎 photo logged · timestamped · 5°C indoors
Paper Trail drafts a formal repair request — dated, polite, professional, with an optional reference to official guidance on repairs. You approve, it sends.📄 Formal request · delivery receipt saved
No reply. A firmer follow-up goes out — noting it's the second written request and that the silence is now on record too.📄 Follow-up #1 · silence documented
Final reminder: it notes that unresolved repair issues can be raised with the local council — and that your full written record would go with it.📄 Final reminder · evidence bundle ready
"Engineer coming tomorrow morning." Funny how that works. Your full case file stays saved — for as long as you rent.
Open the app only when something happens. Paper Trail handles the formality, the dates, and the follow-ups on its own.
Move-in photos, rent receipts, every message — timestamped, organised by room and date, impossible to lose or "misremember."
Describe any problem in your own words. Out comes a professional, formal letter — clear, dated, and firm. Optionally include references to official guidance on your rights, so everyone knows where things stand.
Reasonable response windows, follow-ups when you're ignored, and your deposit timeline the day you move out. It never forgets, so you can.
In the UK, disputed deposits go to a free, independent adjudicator — and adjudicators decide on documentation, nothing else. When your landlord claims mysterious damage, you don't argue. You export a tenancy's worth of dated photos, letters, and receipts. That's the whole fight.
One plan. The yearly option exists because tenancies last years — and so should your records.
Cancel anytime. Your vault stays exportable forever.

No. Paper Trail is documentation and clear, professional communication — not a law firm, and it never pretends to be one. Where it references your rights, it links to official, publicly available guidance so you can read the source yourself. If a dispute gets serious, you take your organised case file to Citizens Advice, Shelter, or a solicitor — and they'll be glad you kept it.
The letters are firm but courteous — often more polite than the message you'd send at 11pm. Good landlords respond faster to clear, written requests. The ones who only respond once things are in writing… were never going to respond to anything else.
You can export your entire vault as PDFs at any time, subscriber or not. Your records are yours. We'd rather you trust that than feel trapped.
England first — renting rules differ across Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland, so we're doing one properly before expanding. Poland is next on the roadmap, with the rest of Europe to follow. Tell us where you rent when you join the waitlist; it genuinely decides what we build next.
